How long will it take to get my books up to date and current?
How long will it take to get my books up to date and current?
It depends on how far behind the books are and the volume/complexity of past transactions, but here are the most common timelines we see:
- Books are mostly current or only 1–2 months behind → usually current within 1–2 weeks
- 3–6 months behind → typically current within 3–5 weeks
- 6–18+ months behind or using spreadsheets/paper records → usually 6–12 weeks for complete cleanup and catch-up
During the initial call we’ll review your situation and give you a realistic timeline. We prioritize getting you to monthly current status as quickly as possible so you can start receiving useful reports and have clean books for tax season.
Catch-up work is usually priced as a one-time project (separate from the ongoing monthly fee) so you know the full cost upfront.
Will I still need a tax accountant/CPA if I use your services?
Will I still need a tax accountant/CPA if I use your services?
Almost all of our clients still work with a separate CPA or tax preparer for tax return filing and advanced tax planning — and that’s actually the ideal setup for most small to mid-sized businesses.
What we do:
- Deliver accurate, reconciled, categorized books every month
- Provide clean financial statements (P&L, balance sheet, etc.)
- Track sales tax, 1099s, payroll data, and other tax-relevant information
- Prepare your books so they’re ready for your CPA to review/file taxes quickly and with fewer questions
Many CPAs prefer working with clients who have professional monthly bookkeeping because it reduces their time (and your bill) during tax season and helps avoid costly mistakes or missed deductions.
If you don’t currently have a CPA relationship, we’re happy to recommend trusted professionals we work with regularly.
How do you keep my financial information secure?
How do you keep my financial information secure?
Protecting your data is our top priority. We follow strict security practices including:
- We only use cloud-based accounting software with bank-grade encryption (QuickBooks Online, Xero, etc.)
- All file sharing and document uploads happen through encrypted client portals (not email)
- We use two-factor authentication (2FA) on every account we access
- We never store your bank login credentials — we use secure, read-only connections or bank feeds
- Our devices are encrypted, updated, and protected with antivirus/malware software
- We carry professional liability (E&O) insurance and cyber liability insurance
- We follow a formal data privacy policy and only access the information necessary to provide our services
If you have specific security requirements (e.g., SOC 2, particular portal preferences), let us know during the consultation — we’re happy to accommodate reasonable requests.
